Quartz
Quartz is made of silica, the same material as glass however despite being the same material Quartz is a crystal an glass is not. Glass is considered an amorphous solid because its molecules are not arranged in a uniform structure which it must be in order to be classified as a crystal. This is why Quartz is used in watches and glass is not because Quartz can conduct electricity and glass is an insulator ,meaning it does the opposite. Pretty wild right?
For this reason Quartz comes in many different varieties, structures, patterns and colors and is the most common crystalized mineral but depending on those factors it can still be quite rare making up stones like Amethyst, Citrine, Agate, Aventurine and many more!
