
Larimar Specimen
Larimar is a single source gem exclusively found in the Dominican Republic. Its unique pattern and colors reminiscent of the Caribbean Sea makes it an unmistakable stone that certainly stand out amongst the rest. Its a variety of Pectolite that forms in volcanic vents in which copper begins to replace some of the calcium around the natural triclinic crystal structure and this creates its notorious color and pattern. Originally called Stefilias stone named after the person who found it was later called Larimar by Miguel Mendez who named it by combining his daughter Larissa and mar, the Spanish word for sea. Part of this renaming happened when Miguel brought this stones attention to the global market where as before was essentially only known by locals. Still to this day is one of the most recognizable and sought after stones for its uniqueness
